We’ve officially stepped into the second half of the year! As I reflect on the first half of 2025, I’m filled with pride and gratitude for everything our incredible GPSN members have achieved – and excitement for what’s still to come. With so many meaningful events already behind us, I cannot wait to look at the remainder of the year and the exciting things coming up ahead!
Celebrating your contributions
This year has already been marked by creativity, advocacy, and connection across GPSN clubs nationwide. From local initiatives to statewide collaborations, you’ve shown what’s possible when passionate students come together to support each other and champion general practice.
From community blood pressure screenings run by our enthusiastic UNSW team, to insightful rural generalism nights hosted by Deakin, and peer-led ‘Inside Scoop’ events connecting students with junior doctors from Bond – our network is leading the way in peer-to-peer learning and general practice engagement. You have all jumped headfirst into your communities with purpose, showing the real and lasting impact we can all make as medical students.
National GPSN highlights
It was a pleasure to meet many of you at the AMSA National Convention earlier this month! GPSN played an exciting role in this year’s program. Our Patron, Professor Michael Kidd, delivered a powerful plenary reflecting on his personal journey from medical school to becoming Australia’s Chief Medical Officer – the first to come from a general practice background. His honesty about challenges and his emphasis on resilience, adaptability, and service to our community left a lasting impression on many in the audience.
GPSN also hosted an interactive clinical workshop in collaboration with eMedici, led by Dr Breanna Graham. It was inspiring to see students working through a rural generalism case using clinical reasoning and practical tools, while also reflecting on the broader social challenges faced by rural general practitioners.
Looking ahead
Looking to the second half of the year, we’ve got an exciting line-up of opportunities for you all — on both local and national levels. These upcoming events will showcase the breadth of general practice and give you ways to get involved in meaningful advocacy and community outreach.
Nationally, we’re excited to launch an upcoming webinar with eMedici focused on high-quality exam preparation and clinical tips. We’re also running advocacy and outreach initiatives where you can directly engage and connect with your broader community.
Take part in our national survey – your feedback is essential in helping us advocate for stronger, more relevant GP education across medical schools. Please don’t underestimate the power of your voice – it has the potential to spark meaningful change and improve the medical student experience for both current and future cohorts. It only takes a few minutes to complete, and you’ll go in the draw to win some exciting prizes!

Finishing the year strong
As we move through the final months of 2025, I can’t wait to see what the rest of our calendar has in store.
One piece of advice I’ve received time and time again throughout medical school is to find your tribe – individuals who inspire you, drive you, and support you in your endeavours and goals. For me, GPSN has become exactly that. It’s a community of like-minded, driven individuals who genuinely care about making a difference – and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of it.
