GPSN Club Events – reports (June 2026)

Western Australia

‘Journey to General Practice’, GPSN WA’s Statewide event took place last month at UWA’s FJ Clark Lecture Theatre. GPSN members from UWA, Notre Dame, and Curtin Medical School came together to provide the medical student community with an opportunity to hear from GP speakers and learn GP-relevant procedural skills, such as suturing, dermatoscopy, and bedside ultrasound.

Featuring four sponsors, including major sponsor Avant, the students got the opportunity to hear about rural and metropolitan-based GP training pathways from ACRRM and RACGP.

Griffith University

Last month, GPSN Griffith held its Cardiovascular and Respiratory Skills event for first-year medical students. They were treated with pizza and Subway, as they had the opportunity to practise their clinical skills, seek feedback and receive a demonstration on how to perform a clinical examination by third-year clinical level medical students.

It was again a highly successful event for GPSN Griffith, with 60 attendees and positive feedback. GPSN Griffith will hold a GP panel event in the second half of the year to consolidate student interest in a career in general practice.

Monash University

Our big event for Semester 1 was our 4C Clinical Skills and Social Night! This was run at two separate locations: metro at Monash University Clayton Campus, and rural at Monash Rural Health Traralgon. The event was targeted at students in their penultimate year of the MD program who are currently undergoing a general practice rotation, and involved rotating through four highly-relevant clinical skills stations (opthlamoscopy, otoscopy, dermatoscopy, and DRE). The stations were facilitated by several lovely GP and dermatologist volunteers, as well as final year GPSN committee members.

We were grateful to have RACGP give a brief talk at the beginning of the events, and received excellent feedback from the students who participated. We look forward to more events to come in the second half of the year!

Bond University

GPSN Bond ran a myriad of events last semester ranging from clinical mock exams to social events. During GPSN games night, student teams rotated through a series of rooms, each containing a competitive-team building activity such as trivia and an interactive obstacle course. This event provided a fun opportunity for students to share some laughs and friendly competition. For Year 3 OSCE night, students rotated through several examination-style stations, each one containing a stimulated patient and two Year 4/ 5 tutors. This event gave students the opportunity to practice their skills in a timed environment, build their confidence, and use constructive feedback to improve.
