The annual GPSN Farm Stay was held at Bestbrook Mountain Retreat, Queensland on May 7-9th.
With COVID restrictions slowly lifting, we were very excited to able to invite several GPSN members from interstate, including Melbourne and Armidale.
We learned about life as a Rural Generalist and got our hands on critical skills such as advanced life support, obstetrics, and surgical skills.
Not only did the students get to learn more about a career in rural medicine, but we also had the opportunity to participate in several recreational and farm activities. We got to meet and feed lots of cute animals, make butter and damper, and have two nights of fun and games over the campfire.
This was all topped off by a walk up Mt Cordeaux, in the heritage-listed Main Range National Park which showed us an amazing view up top of the communities we hope to serve in the future.
We would like to thank our guest speakers Drs Claudia Collins, Zoe Wright and Ryan Avery for volunteering their time and expertise.
We would also like to thank ACRRM, Health Workforce Queensland and GPRA for helping make this camp possible.
ACRRM has gone to great lengths to support our event in all aspects. As the only College in Australia dedicated to Rural and Remote Practice, they are 100% committed to developing the next generation of Rural Generalists and have a proven track record of supporting events such as these to showcase the beauties of working rurally.
Stay tuned for more GPSN Working Group events and we look forward to inviting you to our next Farm Stay event.
