I write to you in one of my last newsletters as the National Chair for the General Practice Student Network (GPSN). What an incredible year it has been – I thank all of you who have played a part, however small, in one of our events across the country this year.
It’s been fantastic to see innovative and worthwhile events take place across all states, and I personally want to thank each local GPSN Chair and committee member for their efforts to make these happen.
Local clubs are the lifeblood of our network and it has been inspiring to see what we are capable of as a network. As we head into the final couple of months of the calendar year, I also want to wish good luck to those who sitting the end of semester exams. To those already finished, I hope you are taking a well-deserved break (and I am very jealous!).
We recently appointed our 2024 National Executive team for GPSN. They will meet in Melbourne at the end of the month, alongside incoming local chairs from each university, to set goals for the year ahead. GPSN will renew its commitment advocating for medical students across the country and revealing general practice as the attractive and rewarding specialty that it is. At our National Council meeting, we will seek to improve upon the year we’ve had and plan for more exciting change in 2024. A big congratulations to the following who will help lead and grow GPSN next year:
GPSN National Executive for 2024
National Chair – Shawn Yang
National Vice Chair – Sarah Bresnehan
National Secretary – Winnie Theresa
National Events Officer – Chase Bolton
Local Events Officer – Lucy Schulz
National Sponsorship Officer – Ryaan Islam
National Working Group Officer – Anton Lu
I recently spoke to the incoming National Chair Shawn Yang from UNSW to hear his thoughts and learn what inspired him to apply for the role.
Enjoy his interview and thank you again for all your support this year!
