Hello everyone, I’m Kylie, and I’m thrilled to be joining you as the National Publications and Promotions Officer for 2024.
My journey to this role has been anything but conventional. Initially torn between pursuing commerce and optometry during my undergrad years, I eventually found my calling in medicine.
Throughout this journey, one thing remained constant – my desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Surprisingly, I never saw general practice as a viable option due to the misconceptions surrounding it.
However, my involvement with GPSN as the first-year representative for the Griffith committee changed my perspective entirely, and I’ve been grateful for the supportive community ever since.
Furthermore, delving into research investigating the factors shaping GP career intentions among medical students has enlightened me about the richness and depth of general practice.
The breadth of opportunities within general practice, especially in areas like skin and cosmetic medicine, has captivated my interest.
During my GP placement, I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the profound impact of primary care and aesthetic medicine on patients’ lives and gaining invaluable mentors in the field.
Now, as part of the GPSN team, I am eager to amplify our message and foster connections within the medical community. GPSN is not merely a society for students interested in general practice; it’s a dynamic platform where passions are nurtured, ideas are shared, and futures are shaped.
I look forward to embarking on this journey with each of you.
Kylie Zhang
